This piece was produced shortly following the Olympic series. Riding off of the success of the 1984 Olympics with the notoriety Escalera received from participating in such a large event; he was commissioned by the World Cup Soccer Organization to create a collectible plate highlighting the event that was actually held in Mexico City. Escalera particularly enjoyed creating this piece as Soccer was one of athletic pursuits as a younger man and remained a huge fan of the game his entire life.
