The artist absolutely loved his Mexican roots and the heritage from which it sprang (Aztec and Mayan Indian). Having immigrated to the United States at a rather young age, he grew to love his second home here. The Great American Chief painting is a tribute to the Native American; the original American citizen. The piece depicts the wondrous glory that is the Native American; the hardships that were endured as well as the defeats that were suffered.
