One of Escalera’s earlier pieces when he was still searching for the style that truly satisfied his creative spirit and soul. This painting is 100% pallet knife, depicting a Native mother kneeling and lifting up a prayer to her gods for the baby on her back. Pleading and asking “please" protect my baby.

An interesting anecdote regarding this piece is that after Escalera's creative evolution led to him permanently using brushes and oil, he stated in the presence of his oldest daughter Laura Alicia, his disdain for this piece. He complained that it was out of proportion, her hands were oversized and he just generally felt it to be inferior work. "Too abstract for my liking," he stated. He threatened to destroy the piece and actually tossed it into the trash but Laura Alicia immediately declared she would accept it as a gift and thankfully it was saved.
