Inspired by the artist's wife Susana who fell in love with the many courtyards she enjoyed in her travels through Mexico with Escalera. The center piece clearly being the well but Susana was often heard saying “but whats on the other side of the door?” She would wax poetically wondering what was in Escalera’s mind with what was on the “other side” after his passing… we can only conjecture. The bouganvillias were added as a result of Susana requesting they be added.
