A journey into the artists spiritual quest. Having lost a beloved daughter, Escalera at first reacted with anger, confusion and dismay. Time being a great healer he slowly began to delve deeper into the greater meaning of life. A very somber time of grieving, mourning and reflection that proved to be both therapeutic and healing for him. His art was his escape and “Wake” was akin to a meditative prayer for him as he worked on this piece. A stark contrast from so many of his other works where the rainbow was his palette. The subdued tones were a reflection of his inner being and the turmoil within.
